The Norfolk Tides defeated the Gwinnett Braves 3-2 on Friday night at Harbor Park in Norfolk, Va.

Gwinnett starter Jonny Venters allowed just three earned runs in five innings but was charged with his sixth loss of the season. He is now 3-6 with a 5.67 ERA. Vladimir Nunez and Luis Valdez kept the G-Braves close with three scoreless innings of relief.

The G-Braves (73-54) got within 90-feet of tying the game in the top of the ninth but failed to get any closer. Diory Hernandez led off the frame with a double and advanced to third on a groundout, but was stranded when Alberto Castillo struck out Antonio Perez to earn his 13th save of the season.

Hernandez and Chris Burke each had two hits in the loss.

The G-Braves return home at 7:05 tonight for a four-game series against the Charlotte Knights.
