Durham drums G-Braves, 9-1

The Durham Bulls defeated the Gwinnett Braves 9-1 in game three of the four-game series Sunday afternoon in Durham, N.C.

The Bulls banged out four home runs and held the Braves to only two hits on the day.

Durham (14-4) wasted no time inflicting its damage, taking a 4-0 lead in the first inning when Chris Richard lifted a two-run home run off of Gwinnett starter Todd Redmond.

Redmond took the loss, yielding six runs and six hits in four innings.

Relief pitcher Cristhian Martinez didn’t fare much better, yielding four runs and three hits in three innings.

Matt Young went 2-for-4, accounting for both of Gwinnett’s hits. Freddie Freeman drove in the G-Braves’ only run with a groundout in the ninth.

Aneury Rodriquez picked up the win for Durham, giving up one hit in seven innings.

Former Brave Alvin Colina was among the Bulls’ leaders at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a three-run home run. Joe Dillon went 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.

The Braves (7-11) and Bulls will play the series finale at 11:05 a.m. today in Durham. Ryne Reynoso (0-3, 6.06) is slated to get the start for Gwinnett.
