Youth shine at junior tennis championships

The Chattahoochee Country Club Junior Tennis Championships were held last Sunday at the Chattahoochee Country Club in Gainesville.

In the girls 16-and-under singles, Emma Etelalahti defeated Nicole Morris 6-0, 6-3 in the final round to win the division after beating Patricia Dial 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinal round. Morris won 6-4, 6-1 over Mariam Shaat to make it to the finals. Shaat defeated Dial 6-3, 6-1 in a playoff match. Christina Bugg beat Madison Smith in the 16-singles consolation final.

Mia Pittman defeated Susannah Poole 3-6, 7-6, 1-0 to win the girls 14-and-under age group. Charlotte Hudson beat Lauren Davis in the consolation final of the 14-year-old group.

In the girls 12-and-under group, Ann Maria Adams overcame Olivia Bugg in the final round 6-7, 6-3, 1-0. Anna Montgomery beat Presley Jackson 6-0, 7-6 in the consolation final of the age group, and Hannah Morris defeated Shelby Johnson 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 in the playoff event.

Andre Forbes won the boys 16-and-under tournament, beating Ray Chase 6-2, 6-0. Evan Ryan defeated Graham McKinnon 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 in the 16-and-under playoff, and Dustin Bowie bested Luke Bynum 6-4. 6-3 in the consolation final.

In the 14-and-under boys group, Hunter Hatsavongsa beat Brooks Berry 6-2, 6-1 to win the event. Saarang Pandey beat Charles Godwin 6-1, 6-1 in the consolation final for the 14-year-old boys, and Davis Jackson defeated Jackson Poole 6-3, 6-1 in the age-group playoff.

Zachary Fisher defeated Hatton Abernathy 6-1, 6-2 to win the 12-and-under event, and Brody Millwood beat Brooks Hylton 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 in the consolation final. Grant Nolley beat Rohan Pandey 6-3, 6-2 in the 12-singles playoff.
