Local golf: 4 win at Reunion event

George Klisures, Mike Reiland, John Santorelli and Larry Yates won the final popular four club event of the season for the Reunion Senior Men’s Golf Association on Wednesday in Hoschton.

Ted Sawyer, Tom Gillespie, Jack Ofsharick and Andy Kain finished in second place, and Tony Gailey, Dave Moreshead Sr., Whitey Clarke and Rick Feniello came in third.

Closest to the pin winners were Wendel Peterson and Jerry Phillips.

LUNA’S TUESDAY: Tom Sexton, Blake Nix, Stan Davidson Jr, and Doug Van won the Luna’s Tuesday golf event last week at Scales Country Club in Homer. Second place went to the team of Gene Weschler, Larry Cleek, Cleve Brown and Larry Miller. Randy Gordy, Joe Roberts, Johnny Nix and Tommy Lowery took third place. Closest to the pin winners were Blake Nix (No. 3), Johnny Nix (No. 6 and No. 13), and Cleek (No. 17).

DOGFIGHT: Greg Lee, Geoff Archibald and Jerry Horton won the Wednesday dogfight event last week at Chicopee Woods Golf Course. Luke James, Bob Arendt and Terry Clegg came in second. Horton finished in first place individually, James took second, and Archibald was third.

CMGA: J.B. Johnston, Joe Cronmiller, Jack Costello and Bob Henderson finished in first place in the Chattahoochee Men’s Golf Association two best ball, aggregated net points game last Wednesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course. Gary Palmer, Jim Hollobaugh, Eddie Johnson and Bill Sutton came in second, and Dick Bachman, Johnny Little, Denny Momper and Roy Lyle were third. Closest to the pin winners were Momper (No. 3), Johnson (No. 5), Paul Payne (No. 12), and Sutton (No. 17).

The North Georgia College & State University men’s basketball team recorded its third win in a row Saturday afternoon as the Saints held on to claim a 92-90 victory over Armstrong Atlantic State University in both teams’ Peach Belt Conference opener in Savannah.
Ishmael Hollis led North Georgia (6-2) with a game-high 23 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.
Corey Green and Travis Core added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Saints. Scott Windom and Chris Tanzy both came off the bench to score 15 and 13 points each. Tanzy led the team with seven assists and six steals.
Aric Miller led the Pirates with 22 points and Eric Eversley finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
North Georgia will close out the 2012 portion of their season with a 7:30 p.m. game Monday against Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla. The game will be part of basketball doubleheader with the women playing first at 5:30 p.m.
NORTH GEORGIA WOMEN 74, ARMSTRONG ATLANTIC 63: Both Jaymee Carnes and Stephanie Huffman recorded double-doubles Saturday afternoon to lead the North Georgia College & State University women’s basketball team (3-5) to a victory over Armstrong Atlantic State University in both teams’ Peach Belt Conference opener in Savannah.
Carnes, a Gainesville grad, had her best game of the season as she collected her second double-double of the season off 23 points and 18 rebounds.
