Lanier Running Club trio shines at USATF Masters National Track and Field Championships
Shaffer, Patterson, Turner combine to win 19 medals

Three members of the Lanier Running Club helped the Atlanta Track Club Masters team capture the USATF Masters National Track and Field Championships last month at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Larry Shaffer, Charlie Patterson and David Turner combined to compete in 19 individual events and three relays, producing 19 medals and 86 of the club’s 1,143 total points. Each of the trio ran the 10,000-meter, 5,000-meter, 1,500-meter and 800-meter races at the event held July 13-16.

Shaffer, a competitor in the Men’s 70-74 age group, participated in the 2,000-meter steeplechase along with Patterson, who joined Turner in the Men’s 75-79 age division. Turner and Patterson both threw the shot put, while Turner competed in the javelin, high jump and discus.

The Lanier Running Club trio combined to win 10 golds, four silvers and five bronzes.
