Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club members Robert Finlayson and Ben Hefner placed in their respective events Friday on the third day of the Sprint World Championships in Szeged, Hungary.

Finlayson finished eighth in the men’s C-1 500-meter B final. He also finished sixth in his C-1 200-meter heat, but a ninth-place finish in the semifinal was not enough to qualify for the final.

Hefner, along with partner Ian Ross (Bethesda, Md.), placed sixth in the men’s C-2 200-meter heat and eighth in the semifinal. They will compete in the B final on Sunday.

“Today was a good day to race,” Hefner said. “There was a strong tail wind, so a lot of boats had some really great times.”
