Davis Weaver survives playoff to win City-County golf championship

The first City-County Championship concluded on Sunday with the second and final round being played at Chicopee Woods Golf Course in Gainesville.

Davis Weaver used a par on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to win the Championship Flight of the new event over Day 1 leader Morgan Nix.

Weaver shot a 5-over 77 for a two-day total of 149 to catch Nix (71-78). Randy Bailey and Will Peeples tied for third with two-day totals of 151.

In the Blue Tee Flight, Larry White delivered a 76 on Sunday for a total of 149 to win by five strokes over Tate Freeman.

Mike Stephens won the Blue Tee Flight low net by a scorecard playoff over Terry Dunn. Both finished with a net score of 146.

In the Senior White Tee Flight, Tommy Calhoun shot a total of 164 to win by five strokes over Wayne Strickland.
Johnny Gilliam was the low net winner with a 142 followed by Pat Ruiz at 146 in the White Tee Flight.

In the Super Senior Flight, Joe Roberts shot a second-round 74 to finish at 152 and win by a one stroke over Don Schrum, who shot a total of 153.

Paul Payne (132) won the low net by two shots over Simmie Miller.

The annual City Championship will be held at Chattahoochee Golf Course July 15-17. The annual Chicopee Championship will be held at Chicopee Woods Golf Course Aug. 13-14.
