The Young Harris women’s basketball team shot a season-best 58.6 percent from the floor to defeat Truett-McConnell 77-44 on Wednesday at the YHC Basketball Arena in Young Harris.
The Mountain Lions (5-0) play Flagler College next to open the Peach Belt Conference schedule at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Augustine, Fla.
Young Harris used a 14-4 run to open up a 27-16 lead on a Ladondra Johnson jumper with 6:09 remaining in the first half. Johnson scored six points for the Mountain Lions during the outburst while Peyton Robinson added four. The Mountain Lions, who went 34-for-58 in the game from the floor, expanded their lead to 39-20 at the half.
Young Harris scored 14 unanswered points midway through the second half to open up a 34-point lead when Brooke Thomas stole the ball and converted a layup with 4:17 to play. The Mountain Lions scored 35 points off of 27 turnovers committed by the Bears.
Johnson led the Mountain Lions with 20 points while Robertson added a career-high 18 in the win. Keta Robinette added 10 points and Kaycee Cash eight in the balanced attack for Young Harris that saw all but one player register in the scoring column. Lauren Smith led the Mountain Lions with seven assists.
Kelsey Montgomery was the only Bear to finish in double figures with 15 points.
