Two former area high school basketball players and current members of the Piedmont College women’s basketball team have been named to the Great South Athletic Conference 2010-11 All-Conference team.

Laura Simmons, a Johnson graduate, and Sada Wheeler, an East Hall graduate, were each honored by the GSAC. This is the second time on the team for Simmons, who led the Lady Lions in scoring at almost 12 points per game and has scored close to 900 points in her career.

In her second-consecutive appearance on the team, Wheeler pulled down 226 rebounds this season and had a GSAC leading 11 double-doubles and 72 blocks. Wheeler also posted a triple double this season: 28 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks against LaGrange on Jan. 14, making the junior one of a handful of players to do so in NCAA Division III.

Simmons, along with Habersham Central graduate Lauren Anders, was also named to the GSAC All-Academic Team.
