The University of North Georgia baseball team defeated Anderson University (S.C.) 3-1 on Wednesday in Dahlonega.
North Georgia started the scoring off in the bottom of the second inning when freshman Devin Gearhart scored off a double to center field by freshman Jake McCurry. The Saints got another run in the bottom of the third inning when Derek Hooper scored North Georgia’s only earned run off an RBI single by Travis Naraine. North Hall High graduate Jesse Strickland finished the scoring for North Georgia in the bottom of the fifth as the Anderson second baseman fielded a ground ball from Naraine, but threw the ball over the first baseman’s head.
Blake Gaubert (1-1) pitched the first seven innings of the game and stuck out three batters to secure his first win of the season while redshirt-freshman Brandon Agar came in for the final inning to secure his second save of the year.
The Saints (7-12, 3-3 PBC) visit Flagler College this weekend in St. Augustine, Fla.
USC-AIKEN 6, YOUNG HARRIS 2: India Kornegay allowed the University of South Carolina-Aiken’s only hit when Paige Sexton laced a triple into the left-field corner to lead off the fourth inning on Wednesday in Young Harris.
Young Harris (18-10, 2-4 Peach Belt Conference) visits Brevard College at 3 today in Brevard, N.C.
USC-AIKEN 8, YOUNG HARRIS 3: USC-Aiken took advantage of five Mountain Lion errors in the second game to score eight runs, six of them unearned.
Kayla Jones led the Young Harris offense with an RBI single in the third inning.
