Young Harris College began its home schedule with a softball doubleheader sweep over Erskine College on Monday in Young Harris. The Mountain Lions won the opener 4-2.
Young Harris put together a three-run fifth inning to take the lead 4-2 after falling behind earlier in the game. Amber Statham, who went 2 for 4, started the one-out rally with a single to deep short and Tori Dyer followed with a walk.
After a double steal moved the runners up a base, Paige Sexton knocked in two runs and Kayla Jones closed out the scoring on her RBI double to center.
Katie-Jo Gentry (1-4) scattered eight hits and struck out three in the complete-game victory.
Young Harris (4-6) returns to action against Tusculum College in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Thursday in Young Harris.
YOUNG HARRIS 2, ERSKINE 1: All the scoring in the second game came in the fifth inning for both teams.
Erskine took the lead in the top half of the fifth, but the Mountain Lions rallied in the bottom as they took advantage of an Erskine error and scored two unearned runs after the catcher dropped the ball and Statham stole second before scoring the game-winning run on Kayla Jones’ RBI single to center.
LEE UNIVERSITY 59, BRENAU 50: Gabby Harvey led the Golden Tigers with 16 points and seven rebounds on Monday in Gainesville.
Olivia Williams added nine points for Brenau (14-15, 5-13 Southern States Athletic Conference), and Nikki Reed, Brittney Wiley and Tala Black each notched eight.
The Golden Tigers close out their regular season as they travel to Brewton-Parker College on Wednesday in Mount Vernon.
