Local college roundup: North Georgia's Spivey named PBC Player of the Week

University of North Georgia catcher Eason Spivey has been named the Peach Belt Conference’s Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Spivey batted .533 with a .933 slugging percentage in four games last week for the Saints. In the weekend series, Spivey recorded multiple hits in all three games and drove in at least one run in all three games, totaling five RBIs for the weekend. On Friday night, he went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and a triple in Game 1 and followed that up with two more doubles in Game 2.

Spivey wrapped up the weekend with a pair of singles in Saturday’s game, driving in one run and scoring two more to lead North Georgia to the 6-5 victory.

BRENAU CHEERLEADING TAKES FIFTH AT NATIONALS: The Golden Tigers competition cheerleading squad finished the competiton with a score of 83.78 to finish in fifth place at last week’s national championship.

Brenau was one of eight teams that qualified for the finals out of the 12-team pool.

BRENAU TENNIS 6, SAVANNAH COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN 3: Vladica Djurdjevic clinched the victory for the Golden Tigers with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles on Friday in Gainesville.

Dominika Jasova, Maria Perdomo Medina and Zalina Nazarova also earned singles wins for Brenau (11-3).

The doubles teams of Eline Nagels/Perdomo Medina and Jasova/Nazarova also picked up doubles wins for the Golden Tigers.

Brenau begins play in the Southern States Athletic Conference Championship on Thursday in Montgomery, Ala.
