The Brenau University tennis team has earned the fifth seed for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) championship tournament, which is scheduled to play May 17-21 in Mobile, Alabama, according to a release from the school.
The Golden Tigers are ranked fifth nationally and will receive a first-round bye in the tournament.
Brenau will open play on Wednesday against the winner between No. 12 Davenport University and No. 21 Reinhardt University.
The Golden Tigers were ranked second in the Southern States Athletic Conference at the end of the regular season with a 10-2 conference record and a 16-6 overall mark.
Brenau’s team boasts the 2016 SSAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Year Fatyha Berjane, a senior from Casablanca, Morocco.
“There are no weak teams in the tournament, so we expect a difficult match no matter who we face,” Golden Tigers’ coach Andre Ferreira said. “ I know our team is capable of competing against anyone and we have enough talent to take points in every position. As long as we play to the best of our abilities, I like our chances moving forward.”
