The Brenau University softball team lost 5-1 to Shorter College and 2-1 to Oklahoma City on Tuesday at the NAIA Softball National Championship in Gulf Shores, Ala. With the two losses in the double elimination tournament, Brenau’s (44-16) season is now complete.

Shorter (52-11) and Oklahoma City (47-19) will play in the National Championship final scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today.

The Golden Tigers led 1-0 in the first inning, but Oklahoma City had two big doubles in the top of the sixth to score two runs and defeat Brenau. Tiffany Schandera led the Golden Tigers going 2 for 3 with one RBI.

Jenny Shepard led the Golden Tigers against Shorter, going 2 for 4 with one RBI, while Anna Maness finished 2 for 3.
Shorter’s Jackie Castaneda and Emily Clements each finished with a home run.

Brenau received an at large bid to the national tournament last week and went on a five-game winning streak before meeting Shorter College.

Brenau began the tournament with a 7-1 win against Bethany College last Thursday in the team’s opening game in Pool A play, followed by an 8-0 win over Talladega (Ala.) on Friday and a 2-0, eight-inning win over top-ranked Concordia (Calif.) on Saturday. The Golden Tigers then defeated No. 18 Auburn University-Montgomery 4-0 and No. 4 Central Baptist College 8-4 in the double elimination tournament.
