Briefs: Piperato wins AAU wrestling national title

Chase Piperato of Flowery Branch won his second consecutive AAU Spring National title Saturday at the Youth Spring National Tournament in Kingsport, Tenn.

Piperato, who is in the sixth grade at C.W. Middle School, competed in tournaments in seven states and finished the season with an 82-8 record.

In addition to the AAU title, he finished first at the Indianapolis Nationals, Grind Nationals and Southern Championships.

Piperato is the 2009 12-year-old Georgia Youth champions and finished second in the Dixie Nationals.

Lakeview beats Riverbend

Josh Wortel led the Lions with two doubles, a run scored and two RBIs in Lakeview’s 13-4 win over Riverbend Elementary on Tuesday.

Rett Kinsey, Wade Beavers, Joe Glenn and Jackson Pratt all had hits and a run scored for Lakeview. Jake Perrot added a hit and an RBI for the Lions.

Riverbend was led by Alex Woodall, who had a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Michael Marshall had a hit and an RBI, whil Lucas Patel and Logan McDaniel each scored a run. Davis Mendes started on the mound for Riverbend and struck out three batters.

Riverbend plays Chicopee Woods at 5:45 p.m. Friday at Sardis Park. Lakeview plays Spouts Springs at 5:45 p.m. Friday at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex.
