Brenau softball extends winning streak

The Brenau University softball team won its six and seventh straight games with 16-1 and 7-0 wins against Southern Wesleyan on Tuesday at Lanier Point Softball Complex in Gainesville.

With the win the Tigers (21-2, 10-0 SSAC), who recently moved up three spots to No. 13 in this week’s NAIA National Poll, stay unbeaten in the Southern States Athletic Conference.

Cassie Lassiter led Brenau in Game 1, pitching for the win and hitting a grand slam. Brooke Borders, Morgan Smith, Ellen Black, Jesse-Lynn Groves and Maggie Renfro each had two hits for the Tigers. In Game 2, Marisa Litster pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts while going 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Brenau. Smith and Black each homered, Groves had three hits and Borders, Brooke Bryant and Nicole Burt each had two hits.

Brenau plays host to 19th-ranked Lee at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
