Brenau briefs: Tigers topple GCSU

The Brenau University tennis team defeated NCAA Division-II Georgia College State & University 8-1 on Monday in Gainesville.

NAIA’s 13th-ranked Tigers (13-4, 4-2 Southern States Athletic Conference) won all three doubles matches, with wins by the team of Lyn See Choo and Hannah Thompson, the team of Jolene Wong and Paula Ghilardotti and the team of Liubov Orlova and Natalia Aranguren.

Orlova, Thompson, Ghilardotti, Choo and Nelli Martirsoyan provided wins in singles action for Brenau.

Brenau plays host to Clayton State at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Brenau tennis players ranked in national poll

Four Brenau University tennis players were ranked in the NAIA Women’s Singles and Doubles rankings released Monday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

In singles, Ghilardotti is ranked 11th and Choo came in 24th out a field of 50 NAIA players nationwide.

Choo was also ranked 11th in doubles, alongside Thompson. Ghilardotti and Wong, are 11th.

Tigers split doubleheader

In a battle between the top two teams in the Southern States Athletic Conference, NAIA’s 13th-ranked Brenau University and 17th-ranked Shorter split a doubleheader Sunday in Rome.

Shorter won Game 1, 4-0, while the Tigers (25-4, 14-2 SSAC) won Game 2, 1-0, in extra innings.

Brooke Bryant was 3-for-3 and Cassie Lassiter struck out seven and gave up only three hits

Marisa Litster picked up the win in Game 2, allowing no runs and striking out in the eight-inning shutout. Brooke Bryant had two hits in the win.

Brenau play host to Auburn-Montgomery at 5 p.m. today at Lanier Point Softball Complex.
