FLOWERY BRANCH — Former Duke University golfer Ryan Blaum will take a narrow lead into today’s third round at the Georgia Sports Orthopedic Specialists Classic after posting a two round total of eight under par 134 at the Royal Lakes Golf and Country Club.
Blaum is one stroke clear of current Hooters Tour money leader Ted Potter who finished at seven-under par, 135 through two rounds on Friday.
Justin Walters finished with a two day total of six under par 136, two shots back of Blaum, while the duo of Oscar Alvarez and Sean McTernan each carded two day totals of five under par 137 and currently trail the former Blue Devil by three strokes.
Third round movers include a pair of 66’s courtesy of Kelly Grunewald, who moved from a tie for 60th to a tie for 7th, while Rob Oppenheim, who’s round included a hole in one on the par 3 sixteenth hole, moved from a tie for 119th to inside the cut line at a tie for 36th.
Justin Estes heads up the local players in The Georgia Sports Orthopedic Specialists Classic after posting a one under par 141 total, while Flowery Branch’s Justin Bates, Ryan Zebeau and Gainesville’s Stuart Moore missed the cut off at 145 for the weekend rounds.
Saturday’s tee times start at 7:30 a.m. on the 6,980 yard, par 71 course in South Hall.
The total purse for The Georgia Sports Orthopedic Specialists Classic at Royal Lakes is $200,000 with $33,566 going to the winner.
