Falcons sign Shockley to practice squad

ATLANTA — Quarterback D.J. Shockley, Atlanta’s seventh-round draft pick in 2006, defensive tackle Vance Walker, a seventh-round draft pick this year, are among eight players signed to the Falcons’ practice squad.

The Falcons cut Shockley, the former Georgia quarterback, and Walker, who played at Georgia Tech, on Saturday.

Also selected to the practice squad on Sunday were offensive linemen Jose Valdez and Michael Butterworth, linebacker Robert James, receiver Troy Bergeron and cornerback Glenn Sharpe.

Rookie John Parker Wilson of Alabama is left as the No. 3 quarterback behind Matt Ryan and Chris Redman.

The Falcons also agreed to terms with defensive back Brian Williams, who is entering his eighth season in the NFL.

The Falcons open the 2009 season Sunday when they play host to the Dolphins.
