Defense sparks Jefferson 34-7 win over Oglethorpe

The Jefferson defense came away with four interceptions and 481 yards on offense for a 34-7 win over Oglethorpe County on Friday at Jefferson Memorial Stadium.

Bryant Shirreffs led Jefferson with 173 yards and a touchdown on 9-of-16 passing and seven yards and a touchdown on the ground. Drequn Sewell had two touchdowns and 47 yards rushing, and Chris Jackson added 47 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Cole Givens was the leading receiver for the Dragons with 4 receptions and 148 yards. Jason Demos had the only receiving touchdown for Jefferson (3-3, 1-2 Region 8B-AA).

On defense, sophomore Kody McDonald had a team-high nine tackles and added an interception in his first game on the varsity squad. Zach Allen had seven tackles (two for loss) and a sack, and Cain Finch, Andre Daniel and Isaiah Blake each had an interception for Jefferson, which visits Elbert County for another subregion game at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
