Dawson County vs. No. 2 Blessed Trinity

Records: No. 1 Region 7-AAA Dawson County (9-3); No. 1 Region 4-AAA Blessed Trinity (11-0-1)

When: 7:30 tonight

Where: Tiger Stadium, Dawsonville

Game notes: This has been a record-breaking season for the Tigers with their most wins in a season (9), most points scored in a game (63 vs. Ringgold in the first round), first ever region championship and now the first trip to the state quarterfinals. ... Awaiting Dawson County will be a tough Blessed Trinity team which is a combined 24-1-1 over the past two seasons and made it to the state semifinals last year. ... Dawson County will need a big game out of sophomore quarterback Coey Watson who has amassed 1,556 passing yards and 346 rushing yards this season with 20 total touchdowns (12 pass, 8 rush). ... More importantly, perhaps, is that the Tigers will need a clean game out of Watson. ... The sophomore has yet to throw an interception this postseason. ... The big question mark for Dawson County is the health of their top playmakers: running back Hunter Mitchell and receiver Tucker Maxwell. Both Mitchell (123 carries, 920 yards and 9 touchdowns) and Maxwell (28 catches, 608 yards and 11 touchdowns) were hurt early in the second half of the Tigers 22-12 win against Spencer last week. ... Blessed Trinity has a strong ground game, led by senior running back Milton Shelton (185 carries, 1,538 yards and 23 touchdowns) and complemented by fellow senior Garrett Dupuis (63 carries, 532 yards and 5 touchdowns). ... Both backs are averaging over 8 yards per carry which is a testament to the strength of the Titans’ offensive line. ... Blessed Trinity senior quarterback Conor Davis (1,314 yards) provides balance for the Titans’ offense with a conservative, but effective passing attack. Davis has thrown for 15 touchdowns and only five interceptions. ... Blessed Trinity beat its first two playoff opponents (Cook and No. 5 Jefferson) by 26 points each. ... The Titans’ defense has not allowed more than 14 points in a single game this season, while Dawson County has been held under 14 points only once and that was in the season opener. ... Dawson County won a coin flip to earn the right to host this quarterfinal matchup. ... The winner faces the Elbert County/Calhoun winner in the state semifinals on Dec. 4.
