I read with interest and amusement about the Mexican illegal immigrants who were arrested for fishing without a license. I read with disbelief the comments made by the local attorneys about the DNR officers targeting and arresting them for "just a violation of fishing without a license" just because of their race.
Apparently, none of these attorneys are sportsmen of any kind. If they were, they would be aware of the DNR policies and the consistent way they check everyone's license at appropriate times.
I trout fish in the mountain rivers and creeks frequently and have had my ID and fishing license checked on a regular basis. It is something I am used to since these guys are doing their job.
The job that we, as taxpayers, expect them to do to protect our game and fish from poachers. If you read "Georgia Outdoor News" monthly, there is a section called the Hall of Shame. This section will prove that the DNR does not discriminate based on one's race since all I have ever seen listed there are white people.
I would question the motives behind the attorneys' comments. All people have the same opportunity to purchase a license to hunt and fish as long as they are here legally. If you are not here legally, then according to our laws, you have no rights.

Immigrant enforcement in Hall is too extreme
As we all know, the Hall County Sheriff's Office has started to verify immigration status on all inmates with deportation process. As a U.S. citizen and a business owner, we have noticed that our businesses have decline increasingly and are concerned that we might just have to close our business.
There is a lot to talk about. It is not fair to anyone because the time it takes to deport an immigrant is so lengthy. I believe it is up to three months or more, and as we all know, it gets very expensive. I would like to ask the residents of Hall County if it is worth all the money.
Hall County is spending this money on each individual, who only came here to work. Only illegal immigrants who are a danger to the public should be deported, such as those committing DUIs, assaults, murders, gang members, pedophiles, rapists and many others.
But to stop someone for not using the turn signal and arrest them for no license and deport them to their country is going to the extreme. I believe the Latino community has made history in this county, especially in the workplace.
It is sad and frustrating that people could show so much hatred against the Hispanic community. All that is going on just shows how selfish this country can be.
