To prove the arrival of Uber, the Web-based ride-share service, in Gainesville above a few whispers around town, The Times hailed a ride to test what would happen.
Within six minutes, a car arrived with a driver who didn’t wish to be fully identified for the story.
The man said he was a retired certified public accountant who just needed some extra spending cash now that all the children have flown the nest. He said he had been driving in the city roughly 11-12 weeks.
But when it comes to late-night partyers out on the town, the driver said he usually tries to stay away.
Reason No. 1: safety.
Reason No. 2: no vomit in the car.
