Crews will begin today resurfacing Mount Vernon Road from Thompson Bridge Road to Dahlonega Highway in North Hall.

The work will occur weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Flaggers will stop traffic, with pilot vehicles leading motorists through the work zone.

Crews won’t be allowed to work within a half-mile of North Hall Middle School and North Hall High School between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m., said Russell McMurry, district engineer with the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The restriction should help minimize the project’s impact on students, staff and parents, he added.

The Hall County school system begins the school year today.

The estimated cost of the 9.3-mile project is $1.29 million, with federal stimulus funding picking up the tab.

“If the weather cooperates, work should be finished this calendar year,” McMurry said.
