Atlanta Gas Light work crews were on scene Wednesday to move a gas main underneath Sardis Road after a portion of the roadway washed out last Friday following heavy rains.
“Once all utilities are out of the way, we will be able to excavate and begin installation of the new pipes,” Hall County Engineer Kevin McInturff said in a press release Wednesday.
McInturff added that he expects the utility work to be complete soon.
“We appreciate the public’s patience as our crews make these repairs,” Hall County Administrator Randy Knighton said in the press release. “The safety of our citizens is always our first priority, and the closure of this roadway is crucial to ensuring their protection.”
Motorists in the area can use Fran Mar Drive as a detour around the washed-out section of Sardis Road, from the Sardis compactor site to Sardis Elementary School, which will remain closed indefinitely as repairs continue.
