Citing personal reasons, Felton Wood has withdrawn as a candidate for mayor of Lula four days before the election.
City Manager Dennis Bergin said Wood signed his withdrawal shortly after 5 p.m.Friday.
‘Notice of his actions will be communicated to the public and his name will be crossed off the ballot,” Bergin said. “It is our understanding all votes cast in advance early voting in his name will not be counted.”
Wood’s exit from the race leaves voters with two choices on the ballot — incumbent Milton Turner seeking a fifth term, and businessman Jim Grier.
