A woman is in custody and faces charges after a stabbing that injured a man Thursday afternoon at a home in Flowery Branch.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office responded just after 4 p.m. to the 5000 block of Riverchase Drive, where deputies discovered a man who had been severely cut with a piece of broken glass.

According to investigators, Rianne Davenport, 26, initially reported she arrived at her home and found four people inside, one of whom attacked her, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. She told investigators that she defended herself with a piece of broken glass. But Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks said it quickly became clear that Davenport’s report was false.

In fact, investigators reported, she had invited the subjects to her home and sometime later became agitated and irrational. She attacked the 24-year-old victim with a broom handle, according to the news release.

The sheriff’s office further reported that she broke a light fixture, then used a large piece of broken glass from it to continue assaulting the victim.

The other occupants were able to stop the assault until deputies arrived.

Davenport was arrested and is being held in Hall County Jail, charged with aggravated battery.

The victim was treated for cuts to his head requiring stitches at Northeast Georgia Medical Center and kept overnight for observation.

Wilbanks said investigators began to suspect Davenport based on the “inconsistencies and retractions” in her statements, and contradictions to the statements from other witnesses, as well as evidence at the scene.

In the arrest report, the responding officer wrote that Davenport “asked to redo her statement,” a short time after making the original.

At her first appearance in Hall County Magistrate Court Friday afternoon, she was denied bond.

Davenport requested a committal hearing, scheduled for Aug. 2.

At that hearing, a magistrate judge will determine if there is enough evidence to send the case to superior court or state court.

Davenport recently was charged with disorderly conduct and misdemeanor obstructing an officer stemming from a July 12 incident.

She was found guilty of battery by a jury in February 2011, and pleaded no contest to a battery charge in August that year.
