Weekend shooting deaths in Buford ruled murder-suicide

The shooting deaths of two people on West Rock Quarry Road in Buford this weekend have been ruled a murder-suicide.

Based on autopsies and evidence, investigators have determined that Margie Gibbs, 67, of Columbus shot Jimmy Watts, 53, of Tiger several times in a Toyota Tacoma before turning the gun on herself, according to Cpl. David Schiralli with the Gwinnett County Police Department.

Watts was found lying dead in the passenger side of a Toyota Tacoma when Gwinnett County Homicide investigators arrived on the scene at about 7 p.m. Saturday. Gibbs, who was lying nearby with a gunshot wound, died after being taken to the Gwinnett Medical Center. A handgun was found on the ground a few feet from her.
