Frosty weather delayed the Georgia Department of Transportation in replacing message boards on Interstate 985 Tuesday.
The DOT had planned to close the right lane and shoulder of I-985 north and the left southbound lane between exits 16 and 17 for the work.
But snowy conditions and freezing temperatures hampered efforts.
“The weather is not cooperating,” DOT spokesman Mohamed Arafa said.
He said he wasn’t sure when the work would be rescheduled to.
Weather permitting, the DOT still is scheduled to close the right southbound lane and shoulder just north of Exit 24 today for the work, which is set to take place 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
“The existing signs are old — over 20 years — and technically out-of-date,” Arafa has said of the efforts. “They no longer effectively provide the desired level of information service, which the new ones do.”
The DOT also is set to replace the message sign Thursday in the southbound right lane of Interstate 85 just north of the weigh station in Franklin County.
