Victims report gunshots after road rage incident on I-985

Two people in a car heard gunshots after being involved in a minor collision on the Interstate 985 exit ramp onto Mundy Mill Road, police said.

Oakwood Police are looking for the suspect in a road rage incident around 8:50 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6.

Investigator Todd Templeton said two people were traveling in a small black passenger car on 985 northbound near the Mundy Mill Road exit.

At that point, a white mid-sized pickup truck tried to get on the exit ramp ahead of the passenger car but ended up behind it.

“At the bottom of the exit ramp, the suspect vehicle collided with the rear of the victim’s vehicle causing minor damage,” Templeton wrote in an email.

As the black car headed eastbound on Mundy Mill Road, the passenger inside called 911.

The victims told police they heard two gunshots fired near the Atlanta Highway intersection, but the bullets did not strike their car.

“Oakwood officers were in the area at the time of the incident and quickly responded to meet with the victims. The suspect vehicle was not located. There is no known connection between the victims and the suspect,” Templeton wrote in an email.

Police are asking for assistance in finding the truck, though they did not have any other descriptive information other than suspected damage to the front bumper.

Templeton said police are reviewing surveillance video from local businesses.
