A Murrayville man and Jefferson woman were charged by Gainesville Police of taking plants from Gainesville businesses.

Scott Glen Dover, 50, and Jamie Shannon McDonald, 37, were arrested and charged with theft by taking.

Dr. Kris Jorgensen of Legacy Family Dentistry said the detectives returned some of the items that were taken Monday morning.

“I know that those guys work so hard on so many cases that are of much greater importance than mine, but they took mine seriously and I appreciated that,” she said.

Jorgensen, who owns the business, reported her 10 hostas missing from the office on May 14. The video from the office’s surveillance cameras was shared on social media last week. Tips from the public, police said, aided in the arrest.

“Dover was charged with stealing plants and other landscaping items from Legacy Family Dentistry and Connect Logistics,” according to a news release.

Attempts to reach Gainesville Police spokesman Cpl. Kevin Holbrook for further comment were unsuccessful.

Before any persons of interest were identified, Jorgensen said she appreciated the support from her patients bringing plants to her office. The owner and her family planted one of the new hostas over the weekend.
