BRASELTON — An accident involving a car transport trailer Thursday morning had traffic backed up for hours on Interstate 85 near Chateau Elan.

The tractor trailer carrying four vehicles flipped over about 10:45 a.m., blocking the southbound lanes of I-85 just past exit 126 at Ga. 211 until about 1 p.m.

Police and emergency service units moved the tractor trailer into the median so traffic could start moving. They still were on scene at 3 p.m. as they turned the vehicle upright for transport.

The northbound lane also was congested as emergency service vehicles parked on that side of the interstate.

The driver, 68-year-old Choi Jae Yen from California, had seen cars ahead of him slow down and attempted to do the same but overcorrected in the process, according to Det. J.D. Gille of the Braselton Police Department.

"There was traffic and he (the driver) tried to slow down. He drove into the median, overcorrected and flipped over," Gille explained.

The driver suffered a broken collarbone and broken jaw. Units from the West Jackson Fire Department removed him from the truck. Barrow County emergency responders transported him to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment.

Units from the Braselton Police Department, Gwinnett Police Department, Barrow Fire Department, Georgia Department of Transportation and the Georgia State Patrol also responded to the scene.
