Toddler flown to Children's Healthcare after near drowning in Habersham

A 4-year-old child was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Wednesday, July 24, after a near drowning at a Cornelia day care center, according to authorities.

Habersham County Emergency Services as well as the fire departments for Cornelia and Demorest responded at 10:37 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, to Foundation Academy in Cornelia.

The child was conscious when emergency personnel arrived, as the child “had been removed from the water,” Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black wrote in an email. CPR had already been administered.

“Due to the information provided, and circumstances of age and near drowning,  Air Life was requested and the child (was) flown to Children’s HealthCare of Atlanta, Scottish Rite campus,” Black wrote in a news release.

Black did not release any further information, and the case was turned over to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office. A lieutenant for the department did not return an email seeking further information on the investigation.
