Gainesville and Hall County both are holding academies this spring to educate residents about the governments. City Manager Kip Padgett said the Gainesville Citizens’ Academy is not a typical classroom lecture, but includes one-on-one time and classes taught at places like the police shooting range and the driving range at the city’s golf course. “Having taught the Citizens’ Academy to more than 300 residents in the past 12 years, we have received tremendous feedback on what the community wants to know about local government,” Padgett said in a news release.
