Tax bills in the mail for Gainesville residents

More than 12,000 tax bills for Gainesville property owners have been mailed and payments are due Dec. 7.

The city is only mailing one tax bill this year.

“One billing will allow us to save money on the cost of preparing the bills and additional postage. Installment payments will still be accepted,” Tax Coordinator Dee Dee Stephens said in a statement. “This annual billing is now possible because we have new software that is compatible with Hall County’s tax system.”

Individual tax information for previous years can be found online at www.gainesvilletax.org.

The 2015 tax revenue for Gainesville is $10.2 million for general government, debt service, and parks and recreation.

Of that total, 32 percent is paid by residential property owners and 68 percent by commercial and industrial businesses.

The city also bills for the school system, which makes up 71 percent of the total tax bill.
