There may not be such a thing as a free lunch, but on Thursday, take a free ride.

Hall Area Transit will give free rides on the Red Rabbit all day Thursday as part of the nationwide, fourth annual Dump the Pump Day.

The National Dump the Pump Day is sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association and is a day that "encourages people to ride public transportation to save money, protect the environment, reduce our dependence on foreign oil and improve our quality of life," according to a news release from Catiel Felts, public information officer for Gainesville.

Thursday’s event will include drawings for three free 20-ride punch tickets for trips on the Red Rabbit. Free ride tickets will also be offered to businesses along the Red Rabbit routes for customers.
