Hall County Sheriff's Office crime scene investigator Cameron Durham walks under crime scene tape on Maple Valley Drive Friday morning at the scene of a shooting in South Hall County.

A Dacula man was shot Friday morning after he is believed to have followed a woman back to her home on Maple Valley Drive in South Hall County, then entered into an altercation with her husband, authorities said.

Corneliu Lazarescu, believed to be in his 70s, suffered bullet wounds Friday morning and was transferred to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. He was listed in stable condition in the intensive care unit following surgery Friday afternoon.

Lazarescu faces stalking charges after allegedly following Cheryl Mack back to her Flowery Branch residence, according to Hall County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Nicole Bailes.

Mack reported to Gwinnett County 911 that she believed a man was following her after walking in a Gwinnett County park.

Mack and Lazarescu did not know each other, Bailes said.

She called her husband, Geoffrey Mack, before returning home.

Geoffrey Mack then approached Lazarescu and their encounter escalated into an altercation. Lazarescu suffered nonfatal injuries when shots were fired by Mack, Bailes said.

Blood was visible on the driver’s side door of Lazarescu’s white Honda.

“We are currently consulting with the (district attorney’s office) on further charges,” she wrotein an email.

The district attorney’s office will decide whether to charge Geoffrey Mack in the incident.
