Suspect injured in Banks County officer-involved shooting

Two Banks County Sheriff’s Office deputies are uninjured after a shooting incident Friday while attempting to approach a suspect wanted on a parole violation warrant.

The deputies were approaching Malcody Dinges, 39, at 300 Banks Drive in Commerce when he fired a gun at the two. They returned fire, striking Dinges twice.

Dinges was taken to Athens Regional Hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries.

There is an active investigation on Dinges through the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office for distribution of methamphetamine.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.
