A Gainesville man suspected of a June 30 drive-by shooting was found Monday, July 9, in a Decatur hotel room, according to authorities.
Witnesses to the drive-by shooting into the Stallworth Street home south of Gainesville told authorities the suspect’s car was a gray Nissan sedan with tinted windows.
Later that same day, deputies made a traffic stop on Davis Street and the suspect escaped.
“Investigators obtained arrest warrants for (Jeffery Scott) Moss after he ran from the traffic stop on foot,” Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck Booth wrote in a news release. “They also recovered a handgun from the abandoned vehicle.”
Moss was arrested around 4:30 p.m. Monday in DeKalb County.
He is now charged with first-degree criminal damage to property and aggravated assault. No one was injured in the incident.
Moss was booked Tuesday in to the Hall County Jail, where he remains.
A witness, who did not want to be identified, previously told The Times he heard five or six shots as the driver stopped outside the home on Stallworth Street. The witness was sitting outside on the steps to his home a few houses down at the time of the incident.
The witness said the driver drove away, then returned and drove by the home again, and pulled into the witness’ driveway.
“He yelled out the window, ‘Where’s he at?'” the witness said, adding that the driver turned the car around and went by the home one more time.
The witness said no one was outside the home where the shots were fired, but there were residents sitting outside a home across the street.
