Sugar Hill man killed in Friday wreck; tanker driver charged

A Sugar Hill man was killed after being thrown from his motorcycle on Ga. 53/Winder Highway near Lanier RacePlex.

Matthew Molle, 32, was pronounced dead at Northeast Georgia Medical Center after a wreck Friday morning.

Molle was driving a 2016 Suzuki motorcycle southbound on Winder Highway as well as Gary Dycus, 73, of Shelby, N.C., in a tanker trailer.

According to Georgia State Patrol, Molle slowed down and attempted a left turn into Lanier RacePlex.

“(The tanker trailer) was following too closely and failed to maintain its lane by improperly passing (the motorcycle) on the left in the northbound lane of Ga. 53,” according to state patrol.

Molle struck the rear drive tires of the tanker trailer, according to state patrol.

“(Molle) was thrown from the vehicle and struck by the passenger side tires of (the tanker trailer),” according to state patrol.

Dycus was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide, failure to maintain lane, following too closely and improper passing, according to state patrol.
