Icy precipitation has fallen over much of Northeast Georgia today and is forecast to continue tonight, according to the National Weather Service.
According to a special weather statement, snow and sleet has been spotted in Dawson, Lumpkin, White and Towns counties. Most of this precipitation was sleet.
Icy precipitation also was seen in Hall County.
The most significant accumulations have been in northern White County, where up to a 1/4-inch of snow and sleet has fallen, according to the statement. Portions of Ga. 17, 75 and 366 in White County have closed.
Temperatures are expected to stay near and above freezing, with warmer air moving in overnight. Precipitation is expected to change to rain.
According to the National Weather Service no significant accumulation is expected, but those driving through Union, Towns, White, Lumpkin, northern Dawson and northern Hall counties should be prepared for winter precipitation and patches of ice, especially on bridges.
North Georgia Technical College canceled evening classes on its three campuses in Clarkesville, Blairsville and Toccoa.
