The Gainesville Parks and Recreation department scattered more than 8,000 Easter eggs across a lawn at the Midtown Greenway as part of its fourth annual Easter egg hunt Sunday afternoon.
About 3,500 people came to the hunt, estimated Michael Waters, recreation program coordinator for the city of Gainesville. Children were put in age groups for the egg hunt.
Winners who found golden eggs with a Dairy Queen sticker on them would receive a basket of goodies put together by the fast food and ice cream chain, while children who found plain gold eggs would be allowed to pick from an assortment of small prizes.
