Citizens can now sign up to get a look behind the badge with Gainesville’s Public Safety Academy.
The 10-week program starts on April 16 and runs every Tuesday through June 18. Participants will learn from Gainesville Police officers and Gainesville Fire personnel.
Topics will include “crime prevention, gangs, narcotics and fire safety,” according to a news release.
“Students will also participate in a police patrol ride-along and suit up in 50 pounds of fire gear,” according to a news release.
Only 25 students ages 21 and older are allowed to participate, and participants must live in Gainesville and Hall County.
Excluding minor traffic offenses, participants must have a clear criminal history.
