U.S. District Judge Richard Gergel on Wednesday approved a settlement ending a legal challenge to the $650 million deepening of the Savannah River shipping channel that could have delayed the project for years. “We’re looking for some common ground,” he said, thanking the attorneys for working out their differences. “Nobody wants to damage the environment and nobody wants to disrupt an important public project.”
