Seminars aim to clear air

Confused about picking a natural gas supplier or just trying to find a way to lower your bill?

Next month, the Hall County Extension Office will offer seminars aimed at helping people understand natural gas bills and service providers. Separate one-hour seminars are scheduled for noon and 2 p.m. Sept. 12 at two Hall County locations. Those interested can sign up for either of the two free seminars sponsored by the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension.

Designed specifically for natural gas customers who live in the Atlanta Gas Light Service Area, the seminars will provide in-depth information on reducing energy bills, as well as heating assistance programs that are available to qualified customers. Though the seminars are open to any natural gas customers, discussions will include assistance programs specifically for those age 60 and older.

Those wishing to attend need to bring a copy of their gas bill; discussion will include an explanation of how to understand the bill, according to the extension office.

Discussion also will include tips on picking a natural gas marketer, because rates and service charges vary by company. A particular company also may have different plans available.

Topics will include conserving energy, which also helps reduce bills.

Those attending the seminar will get a brochure to take home that covers the topics discussed at the seminar and a list of natural gas providers.

Those who are not able to attend but who want to learn ways to reduce their natural gas costs, can call their local extension office at 800-275-8421. Your call is automatically routed to the extension office closest to you.

This program does not include Atmos Energy customers in the city of Gainesville, who do not have a choice to switch to other providers.
