What does it take to be a STAR student? Intelligence, tenacity, persistence, grit and a stick-to-it-iveness that will get them through the four years of high school being at the top of their game academically.

Gainesville Kiwanis recognized Tuesday the nine school STAR students including system winners Joanne Jacob and Helly Patel, who both now move on to the district-level awards banquet in March.

The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition program, through the Professional Association of Georgia Educators Foundation, recognizes and honors Georgia’s outstanding high school seniors and the teachers they’ve selected who have been most instrumental in their academic development.

More specifically, STAR students must fulfill two requirements: They must have the highest SAT score in their school and they must be in the top 10 percent of their class.

Congratulations to Jacob, Patel and the rest of the STAR students and their teachers for achieving this high academic honor.

Patel considers major in applied mathematics
