Although he wasn’t able to say it, 18-month-old Cayden Mott thoroughly enjoyed the 59 degree weather that warmed Gainesville on Monday.
He may not have been able to verbalize it, but the merriment in his eyes and smile on his face as he ran from his grandfather around Wilshire Trails park showed just how happy he was to be outside.
“I got off work early today and my wife, (Sharon McGuire), called to see if I wanted to meet them for lunch,” said Jack McGuire, who is a nurse midwife with The Longstreet Clinic.
“We had a little picnic outside. It was nice, especially for Cayden because he’s been cooped up inside because of the cold weather.”
Monday’s weather was a welcome change when just a week ago, temperatures were just barely above freezing.
Following more than two weeks of sub-freezing and near-freezing temperatures, the warmer weather may seem like a fluke, but it is not. According to forecasters with the National Weather Service, the average temperature for this time of year in north Georgia is around 51 degrees.
“I’ve been running inside on a treadmill for the past three weeks, so when I woke up and saw the sun shining, I knew I had to get out and soak up some of the pretty weather,” said Jill Conner, as she took a break from jogging near Longwood Park in Gainesville.
Temperatures today will be the highest for the week at 61 degrees with mostly sunny skies. Tonight’s low will be 46 degrees.
There is a 40 percent chance of rain Wednesday and the high is expected to reach around 59 degrees, but the chance of precipitation increases overnight to 70 percent.
If you are planning to leave the house on Thursday be sure to pack your rain gear because there is an 80 percent chance of rain and the high is only expected to reach 48 degrees.
Skies are expected to clear up by Friday, which also heralds more warm weather as temperatures are predicted to reach the lower 60s.
