Undeveloped land in the Gainesville area has been rezoned for a proposed nonprofit residential home that would include 15,000 square feet of office, support group space and living facilities.

The City Council approved the rezoning request on Tuesday, April 17, with the condition that the facility would not serve as rehabilitation for substance abuse or serve criminal offenders.

Nearby residents had raised concerns about increased traffic in the area resulting from the development, but an impact study is not required, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

A representative for the developer said the proposed residence would limit commercial development on the site, which is already zoned for residential and general business uses.
