Power has been restored to 500 customers who experienced an outage this morning when a dump truck knocked down three power poles between Athens Street and Gaines Mill Road.

Jeff Wilson, a spokesman for Georgia Power, said the outage occurred about 8 a.m. and power was restored just after 2:30 p.m.

“Everything’s back up,” he said.

Trooper Steve Thompson with the Georgia State Patrol said that a large dump truck was traveling south on Ga. 11 when its bed began to rise up.

“As it went up the top of the bed caught some power lines,” Thompson said. “When it did that it snapped three utility poles in half.”

Thompson said several vehicles received minor damage as a result of fallen power lines, but that nobody was injured.

The wreck remains under investigation.

All four lanes of U.S. 129 were closed earlier in the day.
