Pollo Tropical at the front of North Lake Square has closed. The restaurant opened in July 2016 at the Dawsonville Highway shopping center that also includes Hobby Lobby, Burlington and Academy Sports + Outdoors, among other stores.

Tim Knight, the North Lake developer, said it was a corporate decision by Pollo Tropical, which also closed stores in Hiram and Newnan.

“I don’t know why but guess it would be related to sales volumes,” Knight wrote in an email.

“They will very likely release that space to another restaurant. The Gainesville site is A+ real estate, so I would not expect it to be vacant for very long.”

“We really appreciate our loyal guests and it has been our pleasure serving you. Unfortunately, we’ve made the hard decision to close this location,” a sign on the door of the restaurant reads.

It encouraged customers to eat at one of the other metro Atlanta Pollo Tropical restaurants, including locations in Buford and Lawrenceville.

Venice Nail Salon, Chipotle, Chicken Salad Chick, Jersey Mike's and Five Guys Burgers and Fries are located in a building nearby the Pollo Tropical. One vacant spot remains in the building housing those three restaurants and the nail salon.
